The Sacrament of Baptism
The basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the Word.” (CCC 1213)
How to prepare for Baptism for your baby to the age of 6
Baptism classes for both parents and Godparents are required prior to Baptism. Baptism classes are held in the OLV Classrooms #4-5 downstairs. The Baptism Classes for 2026-2027 are:
July 11th 9am-11am
September 26th 9am-11am
November 21st 9am-11am
January 9th 9am-11am
April 10th 9am-11am
At the Baptism class, there will be an explanation of the scriptural and theological roots of Baptism and a walkthrough of what will happen during the Rite of Baptism. The class will provide great insight and empower parents and godparents to assist as the child grows in their faith.
The meeting will provide you with the needed paperwork, such as the baptism application and the godparent forms.
The Baptism application gives the church information about the child and parents and gives the church permission to baptize your child.
The Godparent forms are completed by the godparents stating they are in good standing with the Catholic church. To be in good standing with the Catholic Church, the godparent must have received all sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Communion, & Confirmation). If married, the godparent must be validly married in the Catholic church.
Baptisms can be scheduled once the baptism preparation class is completed and all paperwork is received.
